8/11/18 - *POSTPONED* - PETROLEUM HYDROCARBON BEHAVIOUR IN CONFINED AQUIFER AND VAPOUR

Time:     12 noon (for 12:30pm start - 1:30pm)
Venue:   Pilgrim Uniting Church Hall - 12 Flinders Street Adelaide

Presenters: Alex Sereda and Jean Meaklim (Greencap)

Brief Synopsis:

Historical leaks from USTs created some soil contamination at the study area. High Resolution Vertical Profiling (HRVP) was used to delineate the soil impacts. The uppermost aquifer underlying the study area was found to be confined and only unsaturated zone above the upper confining layer was impacted. Apart from a few wells which were likely screened across the upper confining layer within the source area only trace concentration of hydrocarbons were reported in downgradient wells. Subsequent soil vapour investigations showed more pronounced impacts extending over 200 metres from the source area.

Lesson learned is that that the mechanism for contaminant impact on confined aquifers differs significantly to unconfined (water table) aquifers.

Join us for a light lunch and refreshments from 12:00 noon.

This workshop is open only to ACLCA member companies and EPA SA staff.
