June Technical Seminar/Webinar for Members
2.00pm Wednesday 24th June 2020
“Recent Changes to the NSW Guidelines for the Assessment and Management of Hazardous Ground Gases” - Chris Jewell, C.M. Jewell and Associates.
The second edition of the NSW EPA Contaminated Land Guidelines - Assessment and Management of Hazardous Ground Gases was published in December 2019. Unlike the first edition, which was an advisory guideline, the second edition is gazetted as a guideline made by the EPA under s105 of the Contaminated Land Management Act 1997. Therefore, site audits must be carried out in accordance with the guidelines and consultants must refer to them (where relevant) when undertaking and reporting on contaminated land assessment works.
The second edition is a substantial revision that aligns the guidelines with changes that have occurred in standards both in Australia and overseas since 2012. This includes the revision of the NEPM in 2013 and changes to BS 8576 in 2013 and BS 8485 in 2015 and 2019, together with new CIRIA guidance.
Chris Jewell compiled both editions of the ground gas guidelines for the EPA. He is a hydrogeologist who has been involved in contaminated land assessment and management in Australia for over 30 years and has been a site auditor in NSW since 1998.
This presentation will focus on the changes to the guidelines, including some of the new material included in appendices.
