ACLCA NSW is pleased to advise we are holding one last technical seminar for 2021, at 2.00pm Wednesday 24th November. As usual this is a FREE event for members only.
TOPIC: Metals in Groundwater, Can they be Cleaned Up? Data and Methodology from three Sites in Mascot, Hexham and Perth.
PRESENTER: Rod Harwood, Harwood Environmental Consultants
TIME: 2.00pm webinar. Webinar link will be emailed to members prior to the event.
This talk challenges the often quoted adage that says that as long as the groundwater is within one or two orders of magnitude greater than the guidelines, it should be OK. The talk presents methods and data including geochemical modelling, lab trials and field trials prior to embarking on full clean up primarily using reductants and ensuring irreversible groundwater improvement.
Rod Harwood is a Principal Hydrogeologist with over 30 years’ experience in various sectors of the environmental industry and has wide expertise in contaminated land assessment, remediation and management and water resource hydrogeology. Rod is a contaminated site auditor accredited by NSW EPA and DWER WA. His long career has involved pioneering in-situ clean-up, groundwater investigations and establishing major groundwater supplies, natural resource management and rehabilitation of water wells. He has written and reviewed various environmental impact assessments, both as a regulator and as a consultant. His publications mainly relate to specific water resource projects and contamination issues, while he has given numerous lectures on groundwater to Council and regulatory bodies as well as lecturing at the UTS CSARM short courses.
