The ACLCA NSW technical seminar series continues with our next presentation on Wednesday 26th October.
Updated Sampling Design Guidelines – Sara Arthur, JBS&G
5.30pm drinks and nibbles, 6.00pm presentations begin
JBS&G – Level 1, 50 Margaret Street, Sydney. JBS&G staff will arrange access to their office from the lobby.
In August 2022 the NSW EPA released the second edition of the Sampling Design Guidelines. The first edition was published in 1995 and is older than many graduates starting their career. The updated guidelines represent a generational change and provides valuable guidance to practitioners, regulators and clients in conducting contamination assessments in NSW.
The guidelines, which have gone from 44 to 179 pages, are now in two parts – “application “ and “interpretation” and while some aspects will be familiar to consultants, there is new content and twists on earlier concepts.
Our presenter will be Dr Sara Arthur, Principal at JBS&G. Sara’s involvement in the revision started in 2018 while she was working at NSW EPA where she provided technical support to the project team and ran a limited consultation workshop for the EPA in late 2019 on the revision to the Guidelines. During 2020 to 2022 Sara helped the EPA finalise the guidelines by editing, responding to comments received during public consultation and preparing new content. Sara’s presentation will explain what’s changed between the 1st and 2nd editions and will tell you things you need to know about the new guidelines. No discussion on the 2nd edition Sampling Design Guidelines is complete without acknowledging the work of Marc Salmon of Easterly Point and his collaborators, who wrote much of the content.
