1st August 2019 ACLCA Bi-Monthly Networking Meeting

The Bi-Monthly Networking Meetings provide an opportunity for presentations workshops and forums on varied topics of interest or currency of legislation within the Contaminated Land Industry. This is a social evening, with a chance for consultants to network.

This meeting consists of the following presentations.

1. Presentation QLD Financial Provisioning Scheme for the resource sector.

Presenters: Sally Wilson (GHD Manager - Environmental Assessment, Planning and Stakeholder Engagement) and Nick Pohl (GHD Executive Advisor – Transaction and Strategy).

The Mineral and Energy Resources (Financial Provisioning) Act 2018 (MERFP Act), which commenced by proclamation on 1 April 2019, provides the legislative framework for transfer of financial assurance (FA) for Queensland resource projects to the new financial provisioning scheme. The presentation will provide an overview of the FA reform and some specifics around the requirements for Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plans (PRCPs) and Estimated Rehabilitation Costs (ERCs) under the new scheme.

2.     Presentation - ACLCA Qld Young Professionals Sponsorship to present at CleanUp Conference 8-12 September 2019 Adelaide. The YP winner will be announced and will present their abstract submission.

3.     Presentation “Australian and New Zealand Water Quality Guidelines Update”. Presenter: Dane Moulton, Senior Policy Officer Environmental Policy and Programs Division. DES.

4.     Presentation – “Vapour Intrusion Investigation, Mitigation and Validation".

Presenter: Dane Egelton. Senior Environmental Scientist / Principal. Contaminated Site Investigations.

Onsite mobile laboratory service now offered in Australia expediates the investigation phase, assessment of mitigation options and the validation of mitigation systems by reporting in real-time onsite. Compounds include TCE, PCE, TCA, Cis and Trans DCE and BTEX in the gas phase (Indoor Air and Soil Gas).

Dane Egelton has over 13 years-experience in the contaminated land investigation sector with a strong focus on the vapour intrusion pathway, sampling methods and analysis methods. He is the Principal of Contaminated Site Investigations Australia (CSI Aus) and is a committee member of ALGA’s vapour and gas special interest group. CSI Aus is a vapour intrusion and mobile laboratory business. The presentation is about the new technology available in Australia for investigation of primarily chlorinated compound impacted sites with the potential for a vapour intrusion risk. Specifically it is a gas chromatograph (GC) that can run a gas sample in <10 mins onsite! The GC can also sample in continuous monitoring mode from up to 16 sample locations and upload of data in real-time.  Continuous monitoring of indoor air concentrations provides the information required to solve the cause and effect of ‘how’ or ‘if’ vapour intrusion is occurring. Some new case studies will be presented from data collected here in Australia.
