The September Monthly Member Presentation is presented to you by our Asbestos in Soils Focus Area (AIS FA).
ACLCA Victoria welcomes Luke Cattanach of Enviropacific to provide firsthand experience of managing unexpected asbestos in soil during contaminated site clean-up works. Luke will demonstrate from a remediation contractors perspective, the complex issue of managing unexpected asbestos during site clean-up which will include the following:
• WorkSafe notification
• Prohibitions pertaining to asbestos
• Time delays and additional costs
• Disposal requirements
• Exemptions to the prohibitions
• Variations to contract
Additionally, Darren Cordy of Greencap and Shane Collins of Prensa will provide a perspective on the practical implementation of Division 8 (Activities Involving Asbestos) of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 which regulates how consultants must address asbestos as part of their works. Darren and Shane will focus on completing asbestos in soils investigations (including gravimetric assessment) and will provide practical information on the following:
• Duty to eliminate risk
• Exclusion zones
• Air monitoring
• Waste management (including PPE)
