CPD 2021 - Statistical Tools

Following feedback from the introduction to Stats seminar in 2017 and 2019 we are happy to announce a follow-up with the Statistical Tools and how to apply them in Contaminated Site Characterisation.
We are investing in you by offering 4 hours online training for $50.00

The course provides an overview on the background and practical application of the common statistical tools, including those set out in the new NSW EPA Sampling Design Guidelines that can be utilised to plan data collection and analysis for contaminated land investigations, as well as introduces the more advanced approaches available to improve site characterisation, uncertainty estimation and how to link concentration, variance and location.

The course will cover the following topics:

Overview of common terms and problems in applying statistics in a contaminated site characterisation. The advantages/limitations of various sampling patterns, target sizes and the effects on the statistical confidence.Interpretation of concentration data using uni-variate statistics and its limitations including, population distributions, parametric/non-parametric data assessment, statistics and uncertainty and statistics and probability.Application of bi-variate approaches to the assessment of site characterisation data with methods such as scatter plots, variogram development and kriging.

The course is aimed at contaminated land professionals and assumes that attendees are familiar with basic statistical concepts and understand the principals of sampling, analysis and data interpretation applied to site characterisation. While other professionals in the environmental industry may find the course useful the course focus is limited to contaminated site application and case studies and hence may miss some context for other fields.

Peter Beck has more than 30 years experience in the assessment, management and remediation of contaminated sites in Australia and overseas. Over the past 20 years Peter has conducted extensive research in the application of statistical methods and tool and their application of site characterisation and data analysis. He has published over 50 papers and presented at national and international conferences and is an appointed environmental auditor in VIC, NSW, SA and WA. Peter was also a contributing author to the recently released NSW EPA Sampling Design Guidelines.
